Helping others through my work is a passion that drives me and is vital to impacting the individuals and organizations within my sphere of influence. Although I have had many opportunities to work in a broad range of leadership roles, a common thread prevails. In each of these areas of responsibility, I desire to build others up in accordance with their needs.

This drive combined with his technical ingenuity, problem solving skills, and technical knowledge and abilities resulted in Charles being an inventor on multiple patents.
The steady resolve and steely determination he displayed on the hardwoods has carried over to the executive suite and corporate boardrooms as he has been a player at the highest levels of corporate America. Charles’ high capacity for work which enabled him to reach the pinnacle of professional sports remains in his professional business life. Target had been holding title on an abandoned property in Matteson, Cook County, IL. This particular Target property had sat vacant for approximately 10 years incurring expenses of over $5Million.
Mr. Smith was presented with the situation by WPP’s Midas and Target’s Agency of Record, Team Arrow in 2017.
Mr. Smith identified Greenlining Realty as a buyer for this property. An urban redevelopment company, Greenlining Realty was interested in acquiring the target property particularly because of its location near a rare nature reserve. Target agreed to donate the property to Greenlining Realty which planned to convert it into a community center for the benefit and improvement of the Matteson Community.

Before embarking on a storied career as a top corporate leader and entrepreneur, Charles D. Smith prepared for this path by getting a quality education. Charles received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh.
He took up his Master’s in Business Administration at Seton Hall University but cut the course short to take up his post as Director of the National Basketball Retired Players Association (NRBPA). He is currently on track to finish in May 2023.

Charles D. Smith isn’t just an athlete, business executive and entrepreneur. The
drive and competitive spirit that fueled his success also led him to the path of the
inventor. Charles, along with several colleagues, created and patented a system and
method for computer-assisted manual and automatic logging of time-based media.
This system enabled sports teams and leagues to capture and retain customizable
data for revenue.
This invention helped make searching through archives of audio, video and/or multimedia assets and finding particular pre-recorded information easier.MLB (Major League Baseball) was an anchor client, and today, a diverse set of companies make use of this technology, including Hewlett Packard, North Plains, Stats Inc., and the NBA
Turning Negatives Into Positives
Not everything turned into a success for Charles D. Smith. He has experienced failure and made many mistakes, culturally, socially, and in the business working with people.
Charles turned these failures into opportunities to become better. Errors made due to a lack of cultural sensitivity, deals that have failed, and failures from his sports career have helped him in his business career.
For Charles, it’s about him understanding that he can learn from anyone when he is humble enough to hear what they are saying and practice what he has being taught. This is when each of his failures becomes erasable and another skill is added to his business acumen.
